Things to Know When Having A Digitally Connected Child

Two of the most common problems parents experience when it comes to read laptop and monitor reviews to handle their children are the Generation Gap and Digital Divide. Due to most children born into an era of advanced technology, with smartphones, Ipads, laptops & monitors like HP pavilion vs HP envy, a lot of not-so-techie parents face difficulty in connecting with them because of how almost everything is done digitally, most especially in today’s pandemic.

To help struggling parents with that, here are some things you might need to know to build a stronger bond with your child regardless of the generation gap and digital divide.

Children Are Most Likely More Techie Than Parents

Children are known to be fast learners, which is why it would not be a surprise for them to surpass their parents’ knowledge in technology and computers quickly. Therefore, it is not recommendable to impose strict rules when it comes to gadget use, because other than they would need it for daily use like online classes, it also probably won’t work on them.

Instead, opt on installing a parental control system to prevent them from accessing sites and content with are inappropriate for their ages. Also make sure you have an antivirus installed on your devices, just in case your child decides to be overly curious and end up clicking random ads or sites that may contain malware.

Teach Your Kids To Utilize Their Screen Time

In today’s time when students are mostly in an online class system, it would be impractical to control their screen time, otherwise, it would just be made as an excuse to not do their online outputs. Instead, teach your children some productive activities online that may help in sharpening their academic skills or help them with their schoolwork.

For instance, have them view some educational videos or teach them how to create lists that they can use as a guide for their chores to do. Teach your children productive habits without having to force or control them.

Make an Area in Your Home a Classroom Setting

It is difficult to focus in a place where you are used for leisure activities, so whenever your child feels inactive while in class at home, then don’t blame them. Strictly monitoring their academics will also not do any good, and will only make your child tense and uncomfortable being in your own house, which is supposed to be a safe place to relax.

Instead, have a quiet area available for them to do only school activities and other areas for leisure and relaxation, that way their focus and productivity will heighten in their ‘classroom’ and they can take breaks and do leisure activities in other places of the house.

Unlike the past generations where children go out to socialize and do all sorts of activities, it is indeed a bigger challenge for current parents to watch over and get to know their children on a deeper level since people tend to have different personas online and in reality. However, being too wary and strict on your children may draw them even farther from you.

And so, the best way to keep a strong bond with your child while disciplining them is to keep communicating. Get to know the people in their lives, how they are dealing with the setup, and help them in any way you can without having to invalidate them and their own little decisions. Allow them to make mistakes and learn from them.
